Fix It Fun November 9
The second Fix It Fun community repair event co-hosted by the
Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance
and the
Bennington Free Library was held
Saturday, November 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at the Bennington Free Library
Fixers that volunteered at the event: sewing/clothing repair and sewing machine repair, bicycles, jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, basic rings, open style resizing. No fine jewelry fitting or prong adjustments), small appliances, electrical stuff, lamps, fans, etc., and simple clock repairs
THANK YOU volunteers for a wonderful event!
Six fixers, including two from The Bike Hub, volunteered their time and talent to try to repair 28 items.
Sixteen items were repaired, including three vacuum cleaners, a wooden TV tray, a zipper replacement, a dress, a skirt, pants, a floor lamp, two decorative holiday ceramic lights, earrings, a kitchen Vito-Mix and a toaster!
Three items were partially repaired, with items being cleaned and visitors given directions for next steps.
Nine items were not repaired, due to tools/parts not available and the item not made to repair. Visitors were given suggestions for next steps or recycling/disposal.
Nineteen visitors came from Bennington, Pownal, Hoosick Falls, Arlington, and Manchester
Community repair events reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill by promoting repair and reuse. Instead of throwing items away, we can appreciate the value in our possessions by reusing them, which saves money and resources, and contributes to a more sustainable society.
This project is made possible by a grant from the Association for Rural & Small Libraries through the generosity of the Manton Foundation.
